Fan Runs as Soon as Nest is Set on Base

As soon as my Nest Thermostat is set onto the base the fan starts running even if the unit is set to off. The thermostat was just installed in place of another existing one. Heat Pump system. Trying to run it on heat, compressor is running too.

Hi

Thanks for reaching out to the community. I am sorry to hear that your fan runs as soon as the Nest Thermostat is set on base. I'm happy to assist you right now.

To get a better understanding of the situation, please help me out by answering the following questions:

  • What type of Nest thermostat do you have?
  • Do you see error codes on the screen of the thermostat?
  • I see the thermostat tries to heat. When did the heating last work?
  • Can you please send me a picture of the thermostat wiring?

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Regards,

Gabriela

So I got the heating to work.  I have a 4th gen nest. There are no error codes. Everything works but the fan runs nonstop. If I remove the Nest from the base the fan shuts off.

Hi

Thank you so much for keeping me updated. I appreciate the time you have taken to answer my questions. I'm happy to continue assisting you right now.

I recommend checking the thermostat settings in the Google Home app. If you have a system with a dedicated fan wire, you can manually turn on the fan with the app or your thermostat or set a fan schedule. For example, you can set the fan to run all night and automatically turn it off in the morning.

You can refer to this article to learn about the Fan control with a Nest thermostat.

Feel free to keep us posted if you have more questions.

Gabriela
