Firmware Update Plans for 3rd Gen Nest Thermostat

With the recent release of info on the 4th gen Nest Thermostat, has anyone seen mention on potential firmware releases on the 3rd gen learning thermostat.  It seems like the visual enhancements of the 4th gen could simply translate to the 3rd gen.  Understandably, extra sensors in the 4th gen would prevent the extra energy saving potentials, but I just installed the 3rd gen literally weeks before I heard mention of the 4th gen coming out.  Just curious.

The new thermostat is a completely new design and I doubt that the 3rd Gen is compatible in any way shape or form to the 4th Gen.

For the hardware, I completely agree.  But software, I am not so sure.  The additional 2nd gen temperature sensor that comes with the 4th gen thermostat is compatible with the 3rd gen, and it would be hard to believe that the displayed graphics of the 4th gen are incapable of being processed on the 3rd gen.  So though it is a completely new device, this is not a "from the ground up" redesign of hardware, software, and communication.
