All I want is to seamlessly have my Nest Thermostat connected to my Google Home app, but I'm running into a ton of difficulties doing so, and no video or forum advice so far has been able to have all of the proper troubleshooting for what I'm dealing with.
I moved into a new home, and the previous owners had a Nest thermostat already installed.
Unfortunately, there was no QR code on the back of the Nest, and when I tried to generate a code for the Home app to connect, the thermostat only gave out 5-digit codes (whereas the Home app requires a 6-digit code).
I went through the process of downloading the Nest app, connecting my Google / Gmail account to it, so I can now sign in to Nest's app and the Nest website with my Google account.
However, when I try to add the device to my Google Home app, I'm taken to a Nest login page that doesn't have a "sign in with Google" option. Obviously, I can't retrieve a forgotten password because I don't have any Nest-specific email/account created.
Please help!!

Is it a nest learning thermostat and if so is it on the wall or plugged in and on a mount/stand?

Yes it is and mounted on the wall, but I can take off the face. I don't know if this matters but I just discovered it's a gen2, not gen3?

Sorry for the late reply but I was replacing my faulty gen 3 with a new one so waited till I had the correct info. So if you haven't already, you need to reset the thermostat on the wall. Make a note of the settings like the type of equipment, screen grab your schedule etc then reset. The last step while setting up is to connect to the app, this then generates some numbers and a word that you can then enter into the app. Just done it twice on the gen 3 and deffo works there, if you've tried everything else I say do this
