Why is nest customer support asking for a g verification code? The text specifically states do not give to anyone. This goes against everything with online security. I have a case open but I’m not giving that code out. I’m just trying to cancel the god awful rush hour settings that are horrible. Is there a corporate phone number to Google that I can have to escalate this?

Hi Jeff978,
Thank you for reaching out. I understand that you are receiving verification codes when contacting support and that you wish to cancel the rush hours feature. I'm happy to assist you. The verification code helps authenticate your account and confirm that we are speaking with an authorized account holder. This is for your security. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
To proceed with canceling the rush hours, the team would like to learn more about this behavior. When you get a chance, please fill out this form and let us know when you’re finished. We’ll have someone reach out to you via email from there.”
I look forward to your response.
Regards,
Manuel

I went directly to National Grid connected solution and they cancelled it via email. I get that you are trying to identify someone via the 2FA but I still do not understand why if Google is so interested in online security that your employees, which Google online says Google employees will not ask for this number, are asking for it. It sets up a bad precedent of giving out 2FA over the phone so maybe someone in the future who is trying to gain access to someone’s Gmail account and is pretending to be something legit that the person would give out their 2FA number.

Hi Jeff978,
Thank you for continuing to post! The verification code is not a 2FA code. The verification you received is just to confirm that you used the correct email address linked with your Google Nest device to contact our customer service. I am happy to know that you have already resolved your concern by email.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Regards,
Manuel

Hi Jeff978,
Thank you for your continued posting. The verification code you received is solely for authenticating your account for futures calls. Please only share this code with the agent to verify your information.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Regards,
Manuel
