Google Home > Climate > Not respecting selected sensor

I've recently switched over to use the Google Home app to control the thermostat from the Nest app. In the Google Home app, when setting the sensor to use, to control the cooling (and presumably heat)... (say its at 75F) it seems to keep the setting for about 15min, and then boom, resets to the default thermostat sensor which is (say its at 71F) which kicks the AC off, as it is set to come on at 72F.

Do I need to re-install the Nest app to get full control?

Hi @scunliffe,

Thanks so much for reaching out to the community! I understand you switched from the Nest app to the Google Home app and are having trouble with the sensor controlling the cooling, as the temperature changes back after about 15 minutes. It can be a bit stressful to keep adjusting the temperature, but don't worry, I'm here to help!

  • Did the Nest sensor issue occur in the Nest app as well, or only in the Google Home app?
  • Have you added the Nest sensor to any schedule in the Google Home app?
  • Have you been able to verify if you have the latest version of the Google Home app?
  • Has the sensor been offline in either the Google Home or Nest app?

Let's start by checking the following:

  • Install the Nest app and then try to perform a 'Connection test'. In the Nest app, go to Settings > Nest Temperature Sensors > [Affected Sensor] > Check Connection. Please share the result with me.
  • Restart the thermostat.
  • Remove the sensor battery for at least 30 seconds, then put it back.

Please feel free to share any additional details you think might be relevant.

Best regards,

Eduardo

I finally found the setting to control this.

  • Re-install the Nest app, it is still needed as the home app doesn’t support this
  • Nest app > go into your “room” where you can see all the deatails
  • Settings gear > Manage sensors > Sensor Schedule > Turn it OFF! In the fine print hint text it says “

With a schedule, your thermostat will automatically switch sensors throughout the day. Turn this off if you'd rather switch manually.”

I can’t imagine a scenario where you have sensors and want to randomly rotate through them. Average? Maybe… cool to the hottest sensor or heat to the coldest sensor? Absolutely. But random round robin is ridiculous.

Hi @scunliffe,

Thank you so much for keeping me informed that you've found the setting to control this. It's completely understandable that you're sharing this feedback through scenarios, so we can improve.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Eduardo
