Google Nest Home Report rating with Heat Pump

Hello,

I was wondering if the ratings in the Nest Home Report take into consideration that Heat Pumps will run longer, but more efficiently.  My latest Home Report only awarded me 2 leaves due to the amount of run time for the heat pump.

I have the temperature set to 20C and the cut-over to furnace (I have dual-fuel with high-efficiency gas furnace) set to -5C as recommended by the installer.  I'm in Kingston, Ontario and the weather has been very mild.  When we were heating solely with the gas furnace, I was regularly receiving 30 leaves per month.

Thanks.

Hi ShawnA,

Thanks for posting. The Nest Home Report offers energy usage information and recommendations to optimize HVAC system efficiency and comfort. The report may consider the run time of your heat pump compared to a gas furnace, which typically runs longer but operates more efficiently due to extracting heat from outside air. The Nest Home Report's leaf ratings are influenced by factors like temperature settings, energy usage patterns, and local climate conditions. If your Home Report shows a lower leaf rating when using a heat pump compared to a gas furnace, it may be due to longer run time. Learn about the Nest Leaf here in this link.

Let us know if that helps.

Best,

Zoe
