My Google Nest Learning Thermostat is not holding a charge.  I have removed it from the wall and charged it (overnight) using the USB port and it does not hold the charge.  First the device stop talking to my wi-fi network and now it fails to hold a charge.  I've only had this device about a year!!!

Please Help!

Hi mjjheard,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community. I'm sorry to hear that your Nest Thermostat is not working as expected and is not holding charge. But no need to worry, help's here!

Before we get started with further troubleshooting, let me ask you some important questions:

  1. What generation of Nest Learning thermostat do you have?
  2. When did the issue first occur?
  3. If the thermostat was recently installed: What is the make and model of your heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment?
  4. Are the power breakers on, and do you receive power to your home?
  5. Is the thermostat's display seated properly?
  6. Are all the wires of your thermostat seated firmly in its terminals (with no loose or exposed wires)?

Here are some basic steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue in the meantime:

Battery Issues:

  1. Check the battery level: Open the Nest app and go to your thermostat's settings. Look for the battery level. If it's low, you may need to replace the battery.
  2. Temperature fluctuations: Extreme temperatures can affect the battery's performance. Try to keep your thermostat in a moderate temperature environment.

Restart Thermostat:

  1. Power Cycle the Thermostat: Turn off the breaker that supplies power to your HVAC system for about 30 seconds, then turn it back on. However you can check the following article to Restart or reset a Nest thermostat depending on your device's model.

In case it helps, you can check the following articles to review the Thermostat error codes and messages or to Troubleshoot when your thermostat won’t turn on.

Please keep me posted.

Mario
