I'm upgrading to a 4th gen nest thermostat from my existing 2nd gen nest, however, the same wiring layout from my 2nd gen is not working with my the 4 gen nest. I recently moved into this new place, so I'm not sure if the old wiring was correct, or who installed it.
The 2nd gen nest had been heating my place fine, but I did need to toggle the settings to use the B wire instead of the O wire after factory reset to blow wam air instead of cool air.
On my 2nd gen nest, the wiring was as follows:
Yellow to Y1
Green to G
Black to OB
White to W1
Orange to W2 Aux
Blue to C
Red to Rh
Upon connecting the same wiring layout on my 4th gen nest, I received a message during configuration that says W1 and W2 are redundant (error code: E413) and can't proceed.
I called Google support and they suggested that I remove the white from W1 and leave it disconnected, but also asked me to get a second opinion.
I disconnected the white, finished configuration and the system worked but was blowing cold are instead of warm air. I then toggled the settings to use the B wire instead of the O wire to wam my place and that worked.
Any ideas if this wiring is correct?
I'm seeing many different suggestions online. Gemini suggests and alternate layout with:
| Orange | Reversing Valve (O/B) | O/B |
| White | Auxiliary Heat | W1 or * (will be configured in the app) |
| Black | Emergency Heat or other function | E or * (see note below) |
Should I switch to what Gemini suggests? Thoughts?
