HELP! Upgraded to Nest Gen4 now dealing with awful Google Home App Scheduling

NJRonbo1

When Nest informed us that our thermostats were no longer going to be supported and we were allowed to upgrade to a GEN4 at a discount, I took a hard look at switching over to Ecobee.  The reason is, that I heard how bad the Google Home App was compared to the older Nest App.  My expectations were correct.

I am using someone else's photo as an example, but this is how easy it was, in the older Nest App to schedule my thermostat to go on and off at specific times.

It seems that you can no longer do this in the newer Google Home App, that is unless I am missing something.

Now, I have to set a comfort range that I want my home to consistently stay in.

Is there a way to specifically schedule my thermostat as depicted above?

And as a note for any Google Support reading this message:  All the bad press about your Google Home App is spot on.  It's not nearly as good as the older Nest app when it comes to controlling my cameras or my thermostat.  Despite the complaints that have been going on for about two years now, you guys have made very little improvements.

I am seriously considering packing this up and getting an Ecobee

I agree. And I have no intention in making the switch over until Google Home App gives me the same, if not more, control over my Nest heating and doorbell camera. I have no confidence in this happening ever as it has been discussed in forums for years which is ridiculous considering the money it costs to try and stay in the Google ecosystem. Surely it's time Google listened to their customers before they start losing them.

what an absolute eco disaster this decision is. it's just pure greed from google, disgraceful to punish us early adopters, they're made of money, we're not! leave the app as is, and let us choose when we replace a still working robust little unit. save the planet google, and our pockets! shame on you!

Hi Folks,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I understand your concern about the enhancement of the Google Home app and the settings to schedule temperatures with your Nest Learning 4th Gen. Let's work together to find a solution.

In the Google Home app, you can manage your schedule temperatures as desired. Here are the steps to create a new scheduled temperature:

  1. Open the Google Home app.

  2. Select your Nest Learning Thermostat 4th Gen.

  3. Tap Schedules.

  4. Choose the day of the week you want to add a new temperature to.

  5. Tap Add event+.

  6. Select the temperature preset you want. You may want to edit an existing preset or create a new preset if the temperature you want isn’t there. Note: If you edit an existing temperature preset, it’ll update everywhere it's used in the thermostat schedule.

  7. Select the time.

  8. Touch and drag the numbers up and down to change the time.

  9. If you'd like, select other days of the week you'd like this temperature to occur (for example, Tuesdays and Thursdays).

  10. Choose the sensor(s) you want the thermostat to use. If you don’t choose a sensor, the thermostat will use its internal sensor.

  11. Tap Save to save the changes.

We're always looking for ways to improve the user's experience. Please consider sharing your suggestions and observations through the feedback form so they can directly influence future updates.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Regards,

Byron

Just started doing this and it's a very tedious and confusing process

Even though I created my own CUSTOM category, any changes I make conflicts with the custom schedules which should not happen.  I want to create something separate from those.  Why is it so difficult?

Optimally, you should have imported the same scheduler that was available on the Nest app.  This is the scheduler with the sliding temperatures and times.  It was much easier.

This is still a mess and your recommendation above is not working.

Hi NJRonbo1,

Thank you for your prompt reply. I'm sorry to hear you're finding the process confusing. I appreciate all the troubleshooting efforts in this situation. Let's explore additional options.

Easily edit an existing event across multiple days. Here are the steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app.

  2. Select your thermostat.

  3. Tap Schedules.

  4. Tap the day of the week that has the temperature you'd like to change.

  5. Select the temperature you want to change, then follow the previous steps provided.

  6. Tap Save to save the changes.

Please keep me posted.

Regards,

Byron

I loved the way the 1st Gen worked in having a separate schedule for each choice, Cooling, Heating, Heating & Cooling. I have the heating schedule selected during winter as the house never gets to hot and I just have to have heating as in this schedule. Then in the spring when some days may be hot and other days maybe cold the Heat & Cool schedule works great for that. Then when summer kicks in as the house gets way to hot I select the Cooling schedule just run the A/C to keep the house cool. Having 1 schedule for all 3 does not work. In the winter as my house is cold and you walk in from the cold I need my house like 69 and some days 70 to feel good. But during the summer and you walk in from outside hot and sweaty I want my house down at 67 or 66 and during the summer that feels good inside. So as you can see, depending on the season, one schedule does not work.

You have hit the nail on the head here

Why Google went ahead and changed a good thing, we will never know.

All they had to do was import the scheduling feature from the NEST app over to the Google app and everyone would be happy…well almost.   The camera functions are not as fluent as they were on the NEST app either, but that’s an argument for another topic.

The problem is, as much screaming that has been done about this, there have been very little improvements made to the Google Home App.  They certainly are not listening to existing users.

Agreed. The cameras display like that old kids rhyme about a bus and go around and around and around in Google Home yet when I switch to the Nest app they are displaying fine.

I can go to the web interface for the browser of home.google.com and guess what? The cameras are displaying perfectly on my Android phone browser while they are still going around and around and around in the Android Google Home app on the same phone. SMH.

No outside temp on the thermostat display? WTH? When we're gone from the house, which is when I need the remote thermostat capability, it would be nice to see the outside temp at home LIKE I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO FOR YEARS. The coding must be too difficult for their Artificial Incompetence programmers.

Methinks it's getting close to the time to just dump this system that I've had since the cameras were Dropcam and the Nest thermostat was, you know, Nest, and just worked.

Let's not even discuss how the Nest Protect 2's stopped alerting to the phone app years ago and Google just ignores it. Oh, and they are going to support our four now-discontinued Nest Protect 2's until they reach end of life? Lemme guess. That will be when they go out of warranty, right?

"Hey, Gemini. What should I do with my multi-thousand dollar plus investment in Google home products?"

"Flush those turds."

I went into my Google Home app yesterday on my iPhone to look at the Nest schedule.  It just sat there trying to load itself.  Never came up.

Stupid me threw out all my packaging.  I so much want to pack this crap up and get an Ecobee.
