Heat stays on

I just installed the Nest Learning thermostat, 3rd generation. I do not have auto-scheduling set, I've reset everything, but the heat stays on, even with the thermostat set at 60 or below. It's currently 75 degrees in the room. It's a 2 wire system, forced hot air, prior thermostat never had this issue. Please help, what am I doing wrong?

Hello Gilhoj,

It sounds like you're experiencing an unexpected issue with your Nest Learning Thermostat, and I'm here to help troubleshoot it.

If the heat is staying on even when the thermostat is set at 60 or below, a few things could be causing this. Here are some steps to help you identify and potentially resolve the issue:

  1. Double-check the wiring connections on your Nest Thermostat to ensure they match the configuration of your heating system. A mismatch in wiring could lead to improper functionality.
  2. Since you mentioned the heat staying on even when the thermostat is set at 60 or below, ensure that the thermostat is not in a mode like "Emergency Heat" or "Auxiliary Heat" which might cause it to override the lower temperature settings.
  3. Check the Nest app or the thermostat display for any messages codes or alerts that might provide more insight into the issue. It's also worth confirming that your thermostat's software is up-to-date.
  4. If the issue persists, you may want to perform a factory reset on your Nest Thermostat and set it up again from scratch. This can sometimes resolve configuration-related issues.

Let us know how it goes.

Best regards,
Mark
