Heating instead of cooling

Hi All, I installed the Google Nest learning Thermostat and just cant get it to work properly. It connects to WiFi and appears to install correctly but it is heating rather than cooling. It may start out cooling and stating Cooling Stage 2 but then switches to heating. See attached picture of the original thermostat that works perfectly and how I wired it in the Nest. I found online the option to change the O setting to the less common B setting that could address the problem but so far, no success. I'm hoping I wired it incorrectly in the Nest so looking for any assistance on getting this problem solved.

Hi all,

Is there a better path to a solution that this community as I havent had any responses yet to what I figure would be a pretty basic question.

Thanks,

Geoff

Hello Geoff,

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your inquiry. Sorry if you feel that way; we're trying to be as responsive as we can. But I'd be happy to take a look at this for you.

It appears that you wired your Nest Thermostat correctly with this setup:

  • Orange wire > O/B terminal
  • Green wire > G terminal
  • Blue wire > Y2 terminal
  • Brown wire > W2/Aux terminal
  • Yellow wire > Y/Y1 terminal
  • White wire > W/W1 terminal
  • Black wire > C terminal
  • Red wire > RC terminal

Could you please try to run a test in its Equipment settings? Try the Heat, cool, and Fan to see if they are working. Then, gather the power readings in the Technical Info settings and press and hold the thermostat screen for 10 seconds until it shuts down to refresh. Proceed with activating your system, and let me know how it goes.

Regards,
Mark

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your response and excuse my impatience 😉 I'll give your suggestions a try. I did do the Equipment Test when I first set it up and got a T2 error I thought but let me re-do it, and do the refresh to finalize.

Regards,

Geoff

Sounds good. I'm traveling for the next week so will do re-install on July 29 so please keep open through end of July if possible so I can respond with hopefully great news.

@GL5, I know it has been a while, but I wanted to ensure that everything was covered here. How's it going? Have you had a chance to re-install your Nest Thermostat? Keep us posted on how the installation goes and if you need more help.

Best regards,
Mark
