Help! Temp not cooling

Nestled
Community Member

Hi! My nest have been working perfectly for 3 years. I’ve been trying to cool the house for the past 3 days and my nest keeps running. The temp increases and so does the time. I’ve reset it, multiple times, checked the wiring, nothing seems to work.

Same here, help, I'm in AZ and it's going to be 110° tomorrow! I'm considering just going Honeywell as I've been fighting this situation the whole year-no heat all winter and now summer no AC, I've gotten the air to turn on but it's not cooling down. AC dude told me nest is incompatible with older ac units 😞

I am having the same issue, it’s frustrating. I don’t even know who to call to come fix it. It’s hot outside and even hotter inside my house.

Same here. It doesn’t seem to cool in the time allotted. Finally cooled off overnight. It was at the correct temperature first thing this morning.  I’m not sure if it is an issue with the thermostat or just hot

Hello everyone,

I'm sorry for the trouble, and thanks for letting us know that your cooling won't work with the Nest Thermostat. I'd be happy to take a look at this.

To isolate:

  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  • When did cooling last work?
  • Were there any recent changes to the HVAC system or servicing?
  • What was the last maintenance service and cleaning?
  • Did the heating work without issues?
  • What type of system do you have? (Heat Pump or Conventional Type)
  • Do you have a photo of your old thermostat? Make sure your Nest Thermostat is wired correctly and verify that the display is receiving power.
  • Did your utility company install a box on your HVAC system that turns the system off during high demand (peak) times to save energy?
  • Do you see any power reports on your thermostat?
  • Please share with us your thermostat's power readings in the Technical Info settings or in the Equipment settings.

I'll look forward to your response.

Regards,
Mark

Hi there,

Chiming in — I just want to check if you managed to see the response above. Please share with us the needed information, as it will help us to move forward.

I appreciate your help, Mark.

Good afternoon

I will try and answer your questions as best I can.  My unit is only 18 months old. I have service scheduled this week.  My unit is forced air and I did not have any issues prior to this week.  The Nest doesn’t seem to be sensing the right temperature in the house. To be honest, I’m not sure if the issue is with the. Eat or the unit.  In the early morning and night time it seems to bring it to the temperature but it does take hours to reduce it to the correc temperature.  Often Nest will show below the set temperature but the system continues to run.  The time to temp is way off.  I have recently changed the filters, reset and restarted the thermostat.  I live in Southeast GA. Any insight you can give would be appreciated

Having the same issue!  We have a GE HVAC system (heat pump) and the AC has not been working all summer.  We just installed the two GE HVAC units last year and are being told by a GE technician that Nest thermostats will not work with the units!  Has anyone else installed GE units and had this issue?  Believe we have the 7500 series.  I was going to try switching the the Y1 and W2/Aux which I think was suggested as a possible solution to test whether air cools in heating mode....but our heat seemed to work fine all winter.  We have two units and the guys who installed added relay switches so one of the units works fine to both heat and cool.  The other will not cool!  Sound like a Nest thermostat issue?  Or an issue with the HVAC unit?

I’m having the same issue. AC is set to 75 and it won’t go below 77. I’ve had the nest installed since I got the unit 14 months ago and the problem just started on Thursday night/ Friday morning. So I know it’s compatible. It’s just not working.
Oh, and the AC unit itself does turn on and run, the house just never cools.
I’ve had my windows open and it’s been 70 here for hours. Nest still reads 77.

Hi folks,

I know it has been a while, but I wanted to ensure that everything was covered here.

I appreciate all the detailed situations with controlling your AC units. How's it going? Have you tried any additional steps in the past few weeks? Please let us know so we can look for more options. Lastly, if you still need help, please share with us your thermostat's wiring setup and its power readings in the Technical Info settings or in the Equipment settings, depending on the Nest Thermostat versions you have.

Thanks,

Mark
