Help with Nest Thermostat

ZachFoster22
Community Member

My Nest Thermostat will not cool. I’ve never had an issue and then yesterday the AC will not cool. I set the desired temperature, get the blue screen that says 50mins until desired temp, but it doesn’t budge.

Newborn baby in the house and need a fix ASAP.

Thank you!

Need a bit more information, however is the Nest temperature visible? Can you read temp on the thermostat? Will the temperature, by rotating up or down change?

I ask the questions because if it does show temp, and you can rotate the dial and move the temperature setting, it may not be the thermostat. I just may be your AC system is not functioning correctly. Is your air handler running (blowing)? is your condenser running( outside half of AC)?

Hey folks,

Thanks for answering, RomanandsonAC.

ZachFoster22, how's your Nest thermostat now? If you still need help with it, please provide the answers to RomanandsonAC's questions above and we'll be glad to dig deeper into it.

None of my 3 Nest thermostats work on cool setting. The wire show correct but if I change one back to my old 5 wire thermostat the AC and heat work correctly..  what gives?

Hey Mearnhardt,

When did this start? What type of Nest thermostats do you have? Also, could you post a photo of your old thermostat's wires as well as your Nest's so we could take a closer look at them?

I'm having the same issue and would really like to know if there is a solution! Happy to provide pictures.

Wiring appears to be correct, however would could possibly help with the nest is by adding a C or common wire from the air handler to the nest. From the pictures sent I can't see, other than no common wire, for there to be an issue. That would be a common wire from the low voltage transformer to the nest. From your previous thermostat you have a straight cool system, which would mean you have only 2 conductors going to the outside unit. A common wire, and a Y or yellow cooling wire. That might help you find the common to run to the nest. I can not see any other reason why the Nest would not run as should.

Let me know if a schematic would help and I'll draw one out for you.

A schematic would really help!

Here's what the HVAC unit looks like with the wires
