Home/Away Assist Disable

I have the use phone location disabled and no other products. But it still switched to Away if I don't walk past every could of hours. Next thing I find is my house is 80. That has to stop, the old version let you run a schedule. Why can't this be an option. All is seems to do is warms things up and then I have to cool things down.

Hi @pumabob2000,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand that your Nest Thermostat automatically switches to Away mode and allows your home temperature to rise to 80, even if you have "Use Phone Location" disabled and no other Google Nest products are installed. I understand the frustration this automatic switch is causing due to unnecessary heating.

To stop this automatic switching and ensure your thermostat sticks to your schedule:

  1. Disable Thermostat's Activity Sensors for Home/Away Assist:

    • Open the Google Home app.

    • Tap Settings (the gear icon).

    • Scroll down to "Home features" and tap Presence sensing.

    • Please make sure that "Allow this home to use phone locations" is set to OFF (as you have already done).

    • Crucially: Look for your Nest Thermostat listed under "Devices" and ensure the toggle switch next to it is also OFF. This prevents its internal sensors from contributing to Home/Away Assist.

  2. Review Eco Mode Settings:

    • In the Google Home app, select your thermostat.

    • Tap Settings (gear icon).

    • Look for "Eco" settings. You can either adjust the "Heat to" and "Cool to" temperatures for Eco mode to more comfortable levels or completely turn off the "Automatically use Eco temperatures when no one is home?" option.

I hope this helps you regain control over your thermostat's schedule!

Best regards,

Kevin
