Home Away not working as expected

I have had the 3d generation nest for years.  Within the last few weeks it has been unreliable, not keeping the tsrget temperature.  I restarted the thermostat and deleted the learned temperatures and it seems to have resolved.  But Home Away is incorrect. Im relying on the sensor not my iPhone to determine my location; When I wake up, the app should indicate Away and be on Eco until I walk in front of the thermostat but it’s still on Home.  When I leave the house, within 45 min to an hour the app indicates Away as it should.  Right now I’m at home and walking around but the app says Away.  What is the problem here?

I called Nest support for help.  We went through steps to reset Home and Away.  The thermostat is still unreliable. The activity sensor is clearly not working correctly.  The support operator told me the activity sensor senses within a range of 200 feet but I don’t see how that can possibly be true without phone location.  Sometimes the app registers Away sometimes Home when I’ve been in the next room away from the sensor for hours.  I’m not looking for more suggestions at this point.  I’m planning to replace the thermostat with a different brand.

Thanks for the reply and we're sorry that you feel that way with the Nest Thermostat.

 

There are a couple of factors to consider why this behavior is happening with Home Away Assist with your Nest Thermostat. The mobile phone signal and how your Nest Thermostat senses the surrounding and sending this information over the internet to your mobile phone.
