Hot water now not working after connecting to wifi

I've moved into a new home that has Nest thermostats.  The previous owner was using these without issue, and reset them before he left.  The thermostats worked fine for 4.5 days, including the hot water.

My internet was then set up for my new home so I then connected both thermostats to the wifi and downloaded the app.  I can see my downstairs & upstairs thermostat and the hot water.  However, since connecting to the wifi the hot water no longer works.  I have it scheduled, but also when I press boost, the heatlink clicks but the boiler doesn't fire up.  I'm having to use manual mode at the moment which is annoying as the heating then also comes on, and an engineer can't come out to me for a week.

I've tried factory resetting the upstairs thermostat which is the one that also controls the water, but it's made no difference. Central heating control works fine. Any ideas?

After messing about some more the downstairs thermostat had hot water set to disconnected, I changed this to on and the bacteria function kicked in.  I've now realised I can only control hot water via downstairs thermostat not the upstairs one.

Hi megray,

Thanks for reaching out. I understand that your hot water isn't working. I know this can be frustrating, but don't worry, I'm here to help!

To better understand your situation, could you please answer a few questions?

  • What type of thermostat do you have?
  • When was the thermostat installed?
  • Do you have a system or a combi boiler? Is the control On/Off or OpenTherm?
  • What's the status of the Heat Link's LED light?
  • Has there been any recent work done on your thermostat(s) or heating system? If yes, what kind of work was done?
  • Was the power restored correctly to the system?
  • Were there any power outages? If yes, has the thermostat been off since then?
  • Did the thermostat and Heat Link work before the outage?
  • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps before contacting us?
  • Does the thermostat call for hot water?
  • Does the display show a water droplet inside a circle? This icon suggests whether or not Hot Water or Bacteria Prevention is activated.

I look forward to your response.

Regards,

Manuel
