How to avoid turning on ecomode when guests are in the house?

Hello,

I like the idea of using the ecomode to automatically start when no one is at home. But i'm not sure how to guarauntee that no one is at home? I see that the nest thermostat and home nest gen 2 have sensors that detect people's presence.. but my guest's room have no home speaker and guests generally don't use my google home speaker anyways. I just am looking for some way to increase the probability that my thermostat will not switch to ecomode when someone is home while i'm not at home..

I think that maybe i could put motion sensors in a couple places and that would be enough.

I think there are 3rd party sellers of economically priced motion sensors.. If i have those, is there a possibility to pair it with google home nest and ensure that the thermostat uses that as an additional source of input for deciding when to go into ecomode?

I don't know, maybe there is a better solution? I've generally left it off because i've had a few guests get frozen/cooked because they didn't want to mess with my thermostat while i was away.. I understand so far from my reading that the thermostat uses soli sensor technology from google home nest and the nest thermostat itself, and when/if someone interacts with the google home speakers. But i don't see any nest protect room occupancy sensors sold by google..

Thanks,

New Father

Hey there isaac_nestuser,

I apologize about the late response on this thread, thank you for your patience! Just to double-check, you want the thermostat to go into Eco Mode while guests are away, and then disable Eco Mode when guests are detected? If that is the case, I would recommend that you check out the 2nd Gen Nest Protect. If you were to place it in either the guest bedroom, or any rooms that the guests would frequent, it would use its Occupancy Sensors to detect them and disable Eco Mode, if you have that set up in your Home/Away Assist Settings.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran
