My old thermostat had the option to set the fan speed and even set the fan to run 15 minutes longer during the cooling cycle to allow for any condensation to evaporate. Additionally the fan would run at a high speed first to start moving the air then setback to a slower speed once airflow was established. I replaced it with the standard Nest Thermostat but found two things:
- It did not support multiple fan speeds
- It did not allow me to set the fan to run without AC running, so my system started to mold (ick)
Read up on it - Nest learning thermostats only ones that support multi-speed and fan programming - good. I have a G wire, good. My old Honeywell thermostat used this wire for fan speeds - good.
Problem - after install there is no menu on the Thermostat or the App that shows fan speeds. I navigate to the location as told in the help documentation and there is no menu option.
Do I need to return this very expensive thermostat??
Thanks,
Jon

So a single update...
The Nest 4th Gen DOES have the option to run the fan after the Compressor has shut off. It is called "Airwave" (Settings > Temperature Preferences > Airwave -> Use Airwave) This is supposed to run the fan after the compressor shuts down to spread the remining cool air in the system.
Note - there is another important factor here, it will also help evaporate any condensate from the cooling coil which can potentially cause a buildup of mold in your system.
So the only issue to solve is adjusting Fan Speeds (the option does not appear).

Still looking for answer:
Have a multi speed fan however
Problem - after install there is no menu on the Thermostat or the App that shows fan speeds. I navigate to the location as told in the help documentation and there is no menu option

Hi Jon67,
Thanks for reaching out. I understand that you need to enable the multi-speed fan on your Nest Learning Thermostat 4th Generation. I'm happy to help!
Here's how to do it:
I hope this helps! And let me know if you have any other questions.

Manuel

The only thing that comes up when I select the Fan icon is "Turn to Set Timer"/ There is no options to set speed and there are no options to drill deeper into menus. Click again it just brings you back to main. These options do not exist with just the G wire? I also cannot find anything in the Home app that is at all helpful.
I did reset back to factory settings and choose the option "Let the system determine" for settings. It did not provide any changes in settings.
Do I need to be NOT in a Cooling or Heating mode?

Hi Jon67,
Thanks for your reply, If you have a multi-speed fan with a single wire, the system will control the fan speed, not the Nest Learning Thermostat This means you’ll be able to use the Nest Learning Thermostat to adjust the temperature and turn
the fan on or off, but you won’t be able to manually control the fan speed.
If there’s more than one fan wire installed, the Nest Learning Thermostat will automatically set the fan speed.
You will also be able to select a speed in the Fan menu.
Please let me know if you have a single wire fan or you have more than one fan wire stalled.
I will be awaiting your response,
Regards,
Manuel
