How to set duration fan runs when turned on with Google Assistant

I can have Google Assistant turn on my heat pump fan successfully but it only stays on for 5 minutes. I can manually turn it on with the thermostat or App. How can I have Google Assistant turn it on for a longer period of time. I also would like to have the fan turn on if the remote sensor I have in a different room goes above a set temperature.

It sounds like you're encountering some limitations with controlling your heat pump fan using Google Assistant and your Nest thermostat. Here are some steps you can take to address these issues:

  1. Adjust Fan Timer: Unfortunately, Google Assistant's integration with Nest thermostats may have limitations on the duration for which it can control the fan. You can try adjusting the fan timer settings directly on your Nest thermostat or through the Nest app to set a longer duration for the fan to run.

  2. Create Custom Routine: Consider creating a custom routine or automation using Google Assistant and a smart home platform like Google Home or a third-party platform compatible with your Nest thermostat. This may allow you to set up more advanced commands, such as turning on the fan for a specific duration or based on the temperature from a remote sensor.

  3. Use IFTTT: If your smart home ecosystem supports it, you can use IFTTT (If This, Then That) to create custom applets that trigger actions based on specific conditions. You could set up an applet to turn on the fan for a longer duration or when the temperature from the remote sensor exceeds a certain threshold.

  4. Check Device Compatibility: Ensure that all your devices, including your thermostat, remote sensor, and any smart home hubs, are compatible with the features and integrations you're trying to use. Sometimes, limitations may arise due to compatibility issues between different devices and platforms.

  5. Contact Support: If you're still having trouble setting up the desired automation or controlling the fan for a longer duration, consider reaching out to Google Assistant or Nest support for further assistance. They may be able to provide additional guidance or troubleshoot any issues you're encountering.

By exploring these options and potentially integrating third-party solutions, you may be able to achieve the desired functionality for controlling your heat pump fan with Google Assistant and your Nest thermostat.
