Humidity reading wrong?

Leal1107

Nest learning thermostat has been in the same location for awhile now and was showing correct humidity levels compared with my psychrometer. Ever since there was a update to the thermostat on May 4 2022, the humidity  levels are 10 points higher now. Does anyone know if this is a software issue?

I’m having the same issue if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Humidity on nest thermostat is showing much higher than the actual humidity in the house.

Hi azprogrammer,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts here in the Google Nest Community.

I apologized for closing the thread as it was being done accidentally. I'd like to continue the conversation until we get a resolution for this issue.

Also, could you try to restart your Nest Thermostat and re-connect it to your Wi-Fi. Check and make sure that the location in the settings is accurate.

Let us know how it goes by replying to this thread.

Best regards,

Ryan

Hey folks,

Thanks for reaching out here in the community.

There are a couple of reasons why the Nest thermostat shows a higher or lower relative humidity reading. While the Nest thermostat is quite reliable and provides accurate humidity readings, its behavior and readings can be significantly affected by external factors such as:

  • Thermostat location
  • Exposure to sunlight or air currents
  • Air flow or air duct exposure

Also, we could restart your Nest thermostat and check if the reading is still too high or too low and let us know how it goes by replying to this thread.

Best regards,

Ryan

Hi Ryan,

I'm having the same issue as the other folks. I reached out to Google with this a few weeks ago and they were unable to fix or problem solve the issue. They ended up sending me a replacement unit. I just installed it today and this unit is still showing humidity higher than my small portable thermometers. So, just curious if anyone else has found a fix.

One thermometer is showing 53% humidity, one is showing 54% (both close to each other) and the Nest is showing 62%, so almost 10 degrees off.IMG_2090.JPG

Hey folks,

Thanks for being here in the Google Nest Community.

I am sorry that we're unable to provide an immediate response to this issue. It looks like Shilohtown already has a replacement device but it is showing a higher humidity reading compared to other thermometers. As with the Nest Thermostat, it is getting the information from the internet based on your location. Check if there's an available update for your thermostat to install.

Also, try to restart or reset your Nest Thermostat and reconnect it to your Wi-Fi network.

Let me know how it goes by replying to this thread.

Regards,

Ryan

Hi Ryan,

I made sure the replacement NEST was updated, I also restarted it. It's currently showing 64% humidity at 73F. I have another thermometer sitting directly on top of the NEST, showing 54% humidity at 73F. So, still showing about 10 points different. I'm really hoping our house is closer to the 54% rather than 64%.

Regards,

Bill

Hi everyone,

Thank you for all your replies.

@azprogrammer, Nest Thermostat was created to adjust itself based on the temperature in your home, meaning it also accounts for humidity levels. Its location and other weather information is coming from the weather services from the internet. It is important that we set our locations in the settings correctly for the thermostat to provide better weather information.

@Shilohtow and azprogrammer, could you try to do a complete factory data reset on your Nest Thermostat and then reconnect it to your Wi-Fi? This will calibrate the thermostat to provide a better humidity reading.

Let me know how it goes by replying to this thread.

Best regards,

Ryan

Ryan, the problem is humidity and it is always been very accurate to the humidity in my house. Are you stating that the humidity on my Nest Thermostat comes from the internet?
