Installation issues : Two C-wires?

Wynlyndd

I am in an apartment complex. I paid Google for Handy.com to subcontract a person to install it. However, the person could not install it for these reasons:

  1. Turning off all the breakers (but one) and there was still current.

  2. Okay, well you should just hit that last breaker, but there was a lock on it

  3. The fact there were TWO C-wires, makes me think that it is daisy-chained somehow?

  4. And that breaker is locked so I don't inconvenience a neighbor.

Has anyone ever heard of this before? Is there any reason there are two C-wires that doesn't involve a neighbor? Is it possible there is a C wire to cooling and one to heating? I really want my Nest Learning Thermostat.

Hey Wynlyndd,

I am sorry for the late reply. I tried to find what information I could about the issue, but I am unsure on why there would be 2 C wire connections. Do you have access to the system control board? This would provide more details on the wires. I would recommend talking to your apartment complex further on it, as they should have more details on the HVAC systems in the apartments as well.

Best regards,

Jake
