Just installed a 3rd Gen Learning thermostat and I cannot get the A/C setting to blow cold air

I have a six wire thermostat I am attempting to replace with a 3rd Gen Nest learning thermostat. On the old thermostat, the wires are connected as follows:

  • Blue Wire - C
  • Red Wire - R
  • Orange Wire - W
  • Yellow Wire - Y
  • Green Wire - G
  • White Wire - W2

When I connect the NEST thermostat I follow the instructions and set as follows:

  • Blue Wire - C
  • Red Wire - Rh
  • Orange Wire - W1
  • Yellow Wire - Y1
  • Green Wire - G
  • White Wire - W2

The heat works great on both heat 1 and heat 2 settings. The A/C never gets cold. It blows and acts like it is working, but it just never blows cold.

After getting frustrated, I disconnected the Nest thermostat and reconnected the Honeywell thermostat as described above, and the A/C is working fine.

Any help?

Hi, @NestedBear and @Wuzwas67,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I'm sorry to hear that your AC isn't blowing cool air. I'm happy to help you find a solution.

Thank you for the details you've provided. Based on that information, it seems your system is compatible with our Nest thermostats.

To effectively troubleshoot, please provide the following:

  • Photos of your previous and current wiring configurations.
  • When did you install the Nest thermostat?
  • Do you have a heat pump system or a conventional system? Some thermostats have separate labels for these systems.

To clarify:

  • Conventional System: Typically consists of two pieces of equipment (furnace and AC).
  • Heat Pump: Handles both heating and cooling with a single unit.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Ana

I believe it is a fuel pump system. This is how it was previously setup:

Hi, @NestedBear,

Thank you so much for your response and for all the details provided. Based on the pictures, it seems you have a heat pump system.

Here's how to connect the wires to your Nest Learning thermostat (3rd generation):

Let me know how it goes.

Keep me posted,
