Why would Google go out of their way to remove a basic thermostat function like "Hold Temperature". This is a basic future of even lead based thermostats from.. well... since they were invented. Why would the budget model have a hold feature and not the top end one?
For those looking to actually looking to have control over their own thermostat during abnormal weather events, you need to disable the auto learning, turn on eco mode, and set your low/high thresholds.
This is what happens when software engineers develop UX...

Hold would defeat the energy saving goal of the learning design.
The regular Nest non learning has Hold so you could get one of those if you want a more basic Tstat with hold.
Or do this process
