Hi everyone,
I will lose the ability to control my Nest thermostats the way I used to in the Nest app. Some functions seem to have disappeared or don’t work properly anymore.
The Google Home app doesn’t yet offer the same level of control or reliability, and this is really frustrating — I bought these devices expecting app control to last for the product’s lifetime.
Can someone from Google please clarify:
Will full control return in the Home app?
Are there any steps we can take to keep equivalent functionality?
Thanks — I love my Nest devices, but I’d really appreciate transparency and a fix for this change.

i have 2nd gen thermostats. Google have discontinued support and i can no longer control the thermostats from the app on my phone.
I bought these thermostats on the basis that i the app control would last the lifetime of the thermostats.
can't understand why this has been discontinued.

Hi @nigeljupp,
Thanks for the information that you provided! I understand that you are aware that we are no longer supporting the 2nd generation Nest Thermostat and you have questions about this decision. Let me answer those for you.
As we move forward and build more innovative and powerful experiences for our newer products, we’ve run into a technical limitation. The hardware in those older devices no longer has the necessary processing power or memory to run the modern software and future updates we are developing. Therefore, to fully invest our resources in advancing and improving the experience of current and future generations of thermostats, we had to make the difficult decision to discontinue software support for these older models.
Please note that the thermostats will continue to function for their main purpose: they can still be used manually and schedules can be adjusted directly on the device. What is being discontinued is the remote connectivity (via the app) and the Google Assistant integration.
You can find more information and details in our main post, “Support changes to our earliest generation Nest Learning Thermostats.” It contains all the relevant details on this change.
I hope this information is helpful!
Best regards,
Debora

Google people are CROOKS! This is the second time in 6 years these crooks have forced me to replace a $300 thermostat. NO OTHER vendors have ever done this in the thermostat space. Ohhh and if you have as Gen 3 thermostat...they will force you to upgrade that one too soon!
Buy Amazon thermostat for $75! It does all the things the Nest does (wifi/remote/mobile access, learning, remote sensors, etc).
Don't keep wasting your money on Google products. They are crooks!
