NEST learning thermostat (Series 3).

Two questions:

One

I program my HW to go on at 0530 hrs and off at 0730 hrs, also on at 1630 hrs and off at 1830 hrs.

Every morning at 0555 hrs and every evening at 1655 hrs I hear the HW pipes creaking.   I've experimented with changing the 'on' times, and the 'creaking' times just change accordingly, always approx. 25 minutes after the programmed 'on' time.  Also, round about each 'creaking' time, the Thermostat display changes from orange to black, but continuing to show HW on.  It's only when you get to the programmed 'off' time (0730 or 1830) that the display changes to 'off'.

Two

Programming HW on and off times brings up a silly clockface enabling you to set times to the nearest 5 minutes.  But whatever times I try to set, they always revert to the nearest hour or half-hour - nothing in between, however hard I try.     Is my thermostat faulty or is the clock face offering a timing flexibility that doesn't actually exist?

Does that mean that it's always taking about 25 minutes to get the HW up to the desired temperature?  In which case, could I simply program 'on' periods of, say, 30 minutes instead of 2 hours?

Hi Mekon77,

Thanks for posting in the community and sorry to hear about this situation with your Hot Water Schedule and your system creaking. No worries, help is here!

That's right, about the time it takes to heat the water up it's called Time-to-Temperature "Your Nest thermostat will estimate the Time-to-Temperature in increments of five minutes. If it's less than ten minutes until the temperature you've selected is reached, the display will read, "less than ten minutes." If it's more than two hours, Nest will read "IN 2+ HR."

Also, about your system making that noise after 25 minutes it started to work, unfortunately, this is something that I strongly recommend to be checked by a Pro installer. Let's contact one using this link

Regards,

Axel.
