Without running the central air our basement gets extremely damp/stale. We can remedy it by placing a separate fan in our basement and blowing the air upstairs, but there really should be a system built in to allow me to run the fan only and move air more efficiently. Any idea if this is coming in an update? The guides specifically say cooling or heating needs to be on, and we do not want that.

Hi SRichar,
Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. Forced-air systems run the fan whenever they're heating or cooling. If your forced air system has a separate fan wire in your Nest thermostat's G connector, you can run the system fan when it's not heating or cooling. If not, your fan will only run automatically when your system is heating or cooling. If you have a system with a dedicated fan wire, you can manually turn on the fan with the app or your thermostat, or set a fan schedule. For example, you can set the fan to run all night and automatically turn off in the morning. Hit this link for more information and let us know how it goes.

I read that link before posting. It says “
So I would still have to set it to cool, and then change my temperature settings each time I want to actually run my ac. Not practical, useful, or helpful.

Hello SRichar,
Thanks for getting back to us. I understand you wanted to run your fan separately from your cooling or heating system. Fan controls differ slightly depending on which thermostat you have. Select your thermostat below.
Nest Thermostat
You'll see a spinning fan icon on your thermostat's screen to let you know it's running.
Your fan will turn on automatically each day for the time and duration you've selected.
