Nest E won't connect to WiFi on initial setup

I'm trying to add my Nest E thermostat to the Nest app. This is the first time using it, it's not connected to an app before. It gets to the WiFi stage then won't finish connecting. It gets to connect, then test, but fails at the "setting up Nest network" stage. Once it fails, the Nest seems to hang, stuck in the spinning dots, and I need to do another hard reset to restart the process and seemingly get nowhere further.

I've tried:

Rebooting the WiFi

Rebooting my phone

Hard reset (about 50 times) on the Nest E

Setting WiFi to 5g only

Setting WiFi to 2.4g only

Rebooting modem

Setting DNS to Google's 8.8.8.8

Setting DNS to Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1

I don't know what else to even try at this point.

Hello NurseHolliday,

I'm sorry to hear you're having issues adding your thermostat to the Nest app, and I appreciate all the steps you've taken. Let's try the steps here:

  1. Complete the initial setup on your thermostat, but skip the Nest Account and Internet connection processes until you reach the last step.
  2. Once finished, go to the network settings and connect it manually to your Wi-Fi network.
  3. Once connected, go back to settings and look for the Nest App option.
  4. Follow the prompt and proceed with adding it to the Nest app on your phone.

Please let me know if that works.

Thanks,

Mark

Hey there,

I'm checking back in. Were you able to do the steps above? I'd be glad to hear from you — I'd like to make sure everything is working.

Thanks,

Mark
