Nest Learning Thermostat Gen 4 // No Cool Air

Hi,

I hope all is well with you all. I've just installed two Nest thermostats in my household. The downstairs (newer units, AC/Furnace) installation was straight forward with no issues yet; however, my upstairs thermostat (which uses an older AC/Furnace combo) is having issues. When I set the thermostat to cooling, it's only blowing warm air.

I believe the orange wire was bridging E & W2 as well, I was aware none of the Nest products allowed bridging, so I opted out of using the orange wire.

Here's a link to the wiring for both old & new thermostats.

Hi  @meridionalking!

Thank you for posting here in the community. I'm sorry to hear that your Nest Thermostat is not cooling. But no need to worry, help's here!

Before we get started with further troubleshooting, let me ask you some questions:

  • Do you know what type of system you have, a conventional or a heat pump?
  • Did you see any error code on the Nest Thermostat screen?

Here are some troubleshooting steps to know how to change the orientation of your Nest Thermostat:

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Tap your Nest Thermostat.
  • At the top right, tap settings.
  • Select Thermostat.
  • Scroll until you find the Heat Pump. It should show which wire configuration is currently selected.
    • If the O option is highlighted, select B.
    • If the B option is highlighted, select O.
  • To make sure the issue is resolved, test your heating and cooling again.

I'll be waiting for your response; any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Please keep me posted.

Best regards,

Jeremy.
