Nest Learning Thermostat Specialized Setup

I'm posting this under "feedback" since the other categories don't fit my issue.  I just installed the thermostat and it works as it should, but I'm not happy with it because I  can't turn off the heater fully and have the thermostat still show the current temperature.  I'm in southern California and have no need to have the heater (or A/C) on standby to run all the time.  My old programmable thermostat showed the current temperature even when the appliances were off.  Am just wondering if anyone might have a workaround.  Wife likes the way the Nest looks, so going back to the old one isn't the best option.

Hello MikeS,

I'm glad to hear that your new thermostat is functioning as expected, but I understand your concern about not being able to fully turn off the heater and still see the current temperature on the Nest Thermostat. It's not uncommon for users to have specific preferences regarding how their thermostats display information.

While the Nest thermostat is designed to dynamically display the current temperature based on the active heating or cooling status, You can try setting the temperature limits on your Nest Thermostat to a range where neither the heater nor the A/C would be triggered. This might not be a perfect solution, but you can effectively keep your home at a comfortable temperature without the need for constant heating or cooling.

I hope this helps while keeping the Nest thermostat's aesthetic appeal that your wife likes.

Best regards,
Mark
