Nest Learning thermostat blowing heat

I just connected and installed my new Nest Learning system. The first it asked is to test the Y1 and G wires and started blowing hot air instead of cool. Any ideas how to troubleshoot?

Hello @LetsGoHiking13,

Thank you for posting in the community.

That's not what we want! I understand you just installed your Nest Learning thermostat, and it's blowing hot air when set to cool. This can be frustrating, but let's troubleshoot and get it working properly.

Check Wiring:

  • First, let's double-check the wiring connections. Make sure the Y wire (usually yellow) is securely connected to the Y terminal on both the Nest thermostat and your HVAC system's control board. The same goes for the G wire (usually green) connected to the G terminal.

System Settings:

  • Next, let's verify the system settings in your Nest app. Go to the app, select your thermostat, then tap Settings > Equipment > System. Make sure 'Heat Pump' is selected if you have a heat pump system.

Test Mode:

  • It's possible the Nest was in test mode when it prompted you to test the Y and G wires. In the Nest app, go to Settings > Equipment > Test and make sure 'Test is Off'.

Additional Tips:

  • If you're still having trouble after checking these steps, Nest has a helpful guide on troubleshooting cool air issues:
  • Important Safety Note: Always turn off power to your HVAC system before making any wiring changes. If you're not comfortable checking the wiring yourself, it's best to consult a qualified HVAC technician.

Let me know if you've tried these steps and if the issue persists. I'm happy to help you troubleshoot further or connect you with Nest support if needed.

Regards,

Jorge.
