In manage a vacation rental unit, I have a Nest Thermostat Model 1.4. I hired OnTech to install the Power Connector 18 months ago. I have repeatedly received on screen error messages:
"System issue g.co/nest/n260" and at least once a week, I receive an [URGENT] email from Google Nest recommending that I purchase a Nest Power Connector.
I have done everything recommended by Google Nest on their website, to no avail.
Yesterday, I paid for another OnTech technician to come out and troubleshoot this. He checked the installation, updated the software, and modified the wiring in the software to:
Y - Empty
G - Empty
C - Empty [this was the change he made]
R - Power
W - Heat
OB - Empty
He restarted everything and said the error is fixed.
This morning the screen said:
System Issue
g.co/nest/n260
I also received the [URGENT] email recommending I purchase a power connector.
The thermostat has been controlling my furnace and I can connect to it. At this point, I would just ignore the error message. However, like I said this is a rental unit (weekly rentals) and I get calls and texts at all hours from renters that my furnace is broken. So I need this fixed or to suppress the error message.
OnTech was no help when I called, they wanted to send a THIRD technician over, I don't have confidence in them to repair this.
Any advice is appreciated.

The Google Nest Thermostat (mirrored) requires the use of a C wire for 2-wire systems like yours. If there is not an extra wire coming from the furnace to the thermostat that you can use to create a C wire then you'll need to use the Google Nest Power Connector and if there is no C terminal at the furnace you will possibly need an external 24Vac transformer too.

I appreciate the help. I was under the impression if there was no C-wire than the Google Power Connection would suffice. We can’t run a c-wire to the thermostat, so I’m still in the same position. I will call another company to look at it.

Hi Debbie_K,
Thanks for letting me know. The message code is most likely about the installation. Have you had a chance to review the article I shared above? Please make sure to update your thermostat's software and try to run a "Power Test" on your actual thermostat's "Equipment" settings. Also, try reporting it back to OnTech and letting them know that your thermostat keeps showing the message code.
Keep me posted on how it goes.
Thanks,
Mark

Here is a suggested way to wire the power connector to your system when you only have 2-wires and no C terminal at the furnace. Let me know if you do have a C terminal at the furnace and I'll provide a different wiring.
