Nest Thermosat wired up but only blowing cold air now. Please help!

I had my landlord come over and wire in a new Nest 3rd gen learning thermostat but it seems that my heat isn't working now.  Put the thermostat up a couple degrees, and it doesn't heat up, only blowing cold air.  It said it was compatible with my 7 wire set up but not sure what the problem is.

Wires are as follows... R C GL GH O/B Y W
Where should these go in the nest thermostat?

Help!

Just match up the wires but don't use the G wires.

If you are getting ac instead of heat you can change the settings for the OB output it has A or B change it to the opposite see if heat comes on.

It has to be set up as a heat pump also.

Hey Houptee,

Thanks for the reply!

Is it best practice for me to not use any G wire?

Forgive my ignorance if not true but I was under the impression that with my system (electric heat with a heat pump) a G wire was needed to kick on the fan.

I don't really know how my fan would turn on without at least one of the wires is put into a receptacle.

I appreciate your Master HVAC knowledge on the subject and look forward to your reply!
Thanks!

Hello folks,

I'm dropping by and see how I could help.

Thanks for lending a hand here, @Houptee.

@KMZT, It appears that your system has a multi-speed fan with GL (low) and GH (high). When using multiple fan speeds, some HVAC functions will become unavailable. Let's sort this out.

Could you share a photo of your Nest Thermostat's wiring with us? Are the fan and cooling systems working independently? Following Houptee's advice about changing the orientation might help. Please follow the steps here:

  1. On the thermostat, go to Settings > Equipment.
  2. Continue > Continue > Heat pump.
  3. The option that is highlighted will be the default; switch to the other option.
  4. Follow the prompt to confirm.
  5. Restart your thermostat to refresh.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Mark

Some systems kick on the fan without a G wire and only need the G if you want to run the fan only without heat or AC on.

But I just realized you have muti speed fan so you would need to follow Markjosephp advice below.

Or you could take the cover off the air handler and there is usually a decal on the cover with wiring diagram and it shows thermostat wiring info. Usually there are notes, little triangles with numbers, and then a chart explaining what the notes mean.
