Nest Thermostat-1.4 ghost touches

My Nest Thermostat 1.4, software version 1.3-10, has been experiencing "ghost touches" in the past few days. With no one around, it will start cycling through the menu, chirping, and acting up. The unit is free from dust, not in an area that can receive direct sunlight, and no other interference (new or otherwise) that I can deduce. Sometimes it will only experience one or two "touches" and other times it will go on for quite some time.

While it was "acting up", I attempted to try to navigate to the Restart menu and the ghost touches fought me all the way. It took several minutes before I could restart it, but the issue still, very sporadically, persists. What gives?

(Also, the mandatory Labels when posting have nothing to do with my issue 😕 )

Here's it in action - sorry it's blurry, I was across the room trying to capture it and was getting tired of getting up when it chirped only to have it not chirp again until I sat down!

Factory reset did nothing - As was completing the setup, chirp chirp chirp as it navigated menus by itself. C'mon

Thankfully I could mute the thing with the phone app - but it's still going crazy

Hi rdefeo,

Uh-oh! I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing with your Nest Thermostat. "Ghost touches" or erratic behavior can be frustrating, but let me take a look at this for you. A few questions:

  • Is the product new, or has it been installed or working for some time?
  • Did you accidentally damage the device?
    • If yes:
      • Did you drop the device?
      • Did you remove the cover or disassemble it for any reason?
  • Was the product purchased new or used?
    • Where was the product purchased?
    • Was it in sealed packaging?
    • Were the factory seals intact?
    • Was there any damage to the packaging?

Also, regarding the unrelated mandatory labels when posting, I apologize for any confusion. The labeling system in place is designed to categorize and organize questions for better searchability and organization. However, I understand that it may not always align perfectly with specific issues or topics. Rest assured that I'm here to assist you with your Nest Thermostat concerns.

Best,

Zoe
