Nest Thermostat Won’t Tell Boiler to Turn Off

I’m in a precarious situation. Since we installed our Nest Thermostat, we’ve found that once our boiler turns on, it won’t shut off (even if the sensed temp on the thermostat says the temp is higher than the desired). And it's not subtle. For example, last night the thermostat was set to 68F and I woke up to a house that was 77F (Proof). Interestingly, if I go to the basement and physically turn the boiler off and immediately back on, the Nest will allow the temperature to drift back down to the desired level. But once the boiler gets the signal to turn back on, it runs constantly until I once again turn the boiler off and back on. So here’s the background on our setup and what we’ve tried thus far. Any help would be appreciated.

Setup

  • Nest Learning Thermostat, 3rd generation
  • Additional Nest sensor
  • Nest Thermostat C-wire Adaptor
  • 24v Transformer
  • Bosch Greenstar Combo Boiler/Tankless Hot Water Heater

After the thermostat was initially installed, we ran into issues with the Nest not receiving enough power from the boiler and the battery consistently dying, hence the C-wire adaptor (and later the 24v transformer).

We assumed the heating overshoot problem was related to the battery charging issues, but now that that is resolved, we are still running into house overheating.

What we’ve tried:

  • Made sure software was up to date
  • Deleting and reinstalling the thermostat on the Nest app
  • Resetting the WiFi in the house as well as the thermostat to ensure the connection is working (it is)
  • Only using living room thermostat as temperature sensor
  • Turning off auto schedule, true radiant, and sunblock
  • Reseting the auto-learned schedule
  • Turning off home/away assist
  • Removing “Safety Temperature”
  • Factory reset

I’m at the end of my wits with this f’ing thing. Please help…

This occured in my house with my boiler also. I had a company come out and they replaced the aquastat, which worked for three weeks.  Today, the boiler kicked on to heat the house from 65 to 70 and never turned off.

The first time this happened we were out of the house and arrived to a 78 degree house with the boiled still kicking. This is dangerous.
