It’s bogus that Google is disconnecting us from WiFi so that we can no longer control our thermostats remotely. This forced obsolescence is going to cost me $450 if I want to upgrade my three thermostats. I suggest that all affected users switch to Ecobee or other thermostats. Boycott Google Nest!

I'm never buying anything that's connected to a company's server ever again.
If I can't control it from my own home or self-hosted server I'm not buying it.
I rather have a dumb thermostat from the get-go than one that gets dumbed down by the company that made it at their will.

I agree! I spent so much time doing all the trouble shooting that they recommended, and just by chance I read on ChatGPT about Google discontinuing cloud support for gen 1 and 2 did I realize what was happening. It was shady of them to not list this out right that in Oct 2025 they discontinued cloud support. The thermostat works fine, but it’s just now “dumber” not being able to connect onto their cloud (yet is connected to the internet). They crippled a working product by severing their cloud connection and making it look like it’s your thermostat, router or power that’s working just fine. I’d hate to spend more money buying a new one when it’s Google that crippled my product’s ability to function. Bad customer relations Google! 👎

Great! Hope to get instructions. By the way, there is a legal firm pursuing a class action suit but read the fine print - they take 40 percent and costs so there won't be much left over! I don't think worth the effort.

Link to that lawsuit? I don't care about getting money, I just want my online functionality back.

Won't restore functionality - they are looking to get something towards replacement. Google "Nest thermostat class action lawsuit".
