Nest Thermostat says heating or fan running when it’s not

My nest thermostat has been saying it is heating and orange but the furnace is not kicking on. We checked the furnace and it’s fine, and figured out that if I turn the heat down to get it to stop “heating”, and back up again it will work. We run our fan at night and I noticed that it stopped heating shortly after it kicked on and when it stopped heating the fan stopped running as well. So I did the same thing, shut the fan off on the thermostat and back on and it started working again, as well as turn the heat down and back up to get that to start working again.

It’s also been disconnected from WiFi for a really long time and we can’t figure out how to get it to reconnect. We followed all troubleshooting suggestions on another thread and it won’t find our network (nothing wrong with the network, it’s the thermostat).

Also note that we’ve had this thermostat since 2019, and this is the first time we’ve had this issue. It doesn’t seem like a wiring issue to me since it hasn’t happened before, and with the other WiFi issues it seems like it’s the nest itself.

I have somewhat similar issue.    We just installed a 3rd gen Nest learning thermostat to our hvac system.  When we set our heat/turn on the heat on nest Thermostat, it turns on the fan and doesn’t heat up the house.

Before installing the Nest, the dumb thermostat had 2 fan modes (auto and on).  When we turned on the heat on old thermostat, we would hear the furnace kicking on to heat up the heat exchanger and fan would follow suite after about 3 to 5 minutes.

This behavior is gone after we installed the  3rd gen Nest Thermostat.

When looking at the nest APP, it says that we are on electrical heat source, and in fact we are on Natural gas heating.   I’m not sure if I have to jump the wiring (my dumb/old thermostat had R1 and R2 on it which is not present on Nest).

any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
