Nest Wi-Fi connection away from home

I have a nest thermostat model# TGWR4N. I can’t use my phone to control the thermostat with my phone, but when I’m not at home n want to control the thermostat through my phone app, it tell me that I am offline and unable to use app to control it by my phone app. To be clear, I can’t control through my phone with my home WiFi, but once I’m away from home, app is offline. Help please

To determine the most effective troubleshooting plan, could you please answer the following questions:

• Are you controlling your thermostat from the Nest or Google Home app?
• Are other non-Nest devices in the home offline? 
• Is the WiFi router or access point within a reasonable range (1 to 15 meters) [between 3 and 50 feet] from the Nest devices?
• Are there devices or appliances (such as baby monitors, microwaves, cordless phones, and more) near the thermostat?
• What's the software version of your thermostat?
