Nest increases the temperature by itself

bethap23

I have two Nest Thermostats, and both are set with a schedule. During the day, they are both set to 77 degrees. Every day, at 3:20pm, they both are changed to 78 degrees even though the schedule does not call for any change in temperature. Does anyone know why this would be happening and how I can make it stop?

Hi bethap23,

Thanks for posting here in the Community forum, and I'm sorry to hear about the situation.

A few questions: what type of Nest Thermostat do you have? Is it a newly installed thermostat? Also, does your thermostat follow a schedule set on it?

I'll look forward to your response.

Best,

Zoe

Both of my thermostats are the Google Nest learning wifi thermostats. They are not newly installed, I have had them for 3 years. Yes, they are both scheduled. During the day the schedule sets to 77 at 8am. It does not call for any change to the temperature until the late evening. However, both thermostats move the temp up to 78 degrees on their own, at 3:20pm, even though the schedule does not have any variation in temps. It later goes back to 77 on its own, if I don't manually correct it before that.

Hey bethap23,

Thanks for the follow up information. Nest learning Thermostats have an Auto Schedule aside with the Manual Schedule. To ensure that your thermostat will only follow its schedule, you have to disable some features that might affect the behavior of your thermostat.

Please take a look at this guide on how to disable smart features:

Home/Away Assist

  1. Go to the thermostat Quick View menu.
  2. Choose Settings.
  3. Select Home/Away Assist then turn it off.

Auto Schedule

  1. Go to the thermostat Quick View menu.
  2. Look for Nest Sense.
  3. Select Auto Schedule then turn it  off.

After disabling these features, monitor if the issue persists.

I appreciate the input, Zoe.

Thanks,

Jenelyn

Hello,  home/away Assist and Auto Schedule are both already off for both of my thermostats.

Hi there,

Thanks for the update. If the issue persists even if those features are disabled, please perform a factory reset. Make a copy of your schedules so you can easily set them again. Remove your Nest Thermostat from the Nest app before performing a reset. Also, reinstall the app.

Please keep me posted.

Regards,

Jenelyn
