Nest is not charging

The thermostat is restarting. Back in a bit. Loop red blinking light then back to “the thermostat is restarting. Back in a bit. I’ve tried charging with it off the wall with charging cord. I’ve checked all my wires everything is good there. It’s just not holding a charge. Am I going to have to buy a new one or is there a way to replace the chargeable battery?

Appears I'm having the same problem. I've installed many of these in the past, but this one just doesn't appear to be charging (on the mount or via USB). I've tested voltage from the red wire. 24+ Volts. That should be more than enough to charge (and maintain a charge). I don't have the C-Wire hooked up, but again.... with 24+Volts from the Red, that should be enough.

I'm going to try to return it to Home Depot tomorrow, but I'm sure they will say I have to deal with Nest.

Does anyone else have issues with this? Could it be just a bad unit?

I am curious I seen batteries for it on Amazon just wondering if it’s even worth it if it’s currently not charging this one

Not sure. I just returned it to Home Depot and I'll deal with it later.

Hey there,

Sorry to hear about the trouble. I wanted to follow up and see if I could be of any help. Do you mind me asking if you have a C wire installed to the device? I found an article that has more details on the issue you are seeing. Please let me know if you are still having any trouble from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Best regards,
Jake

No C Wire. With having 24+ volts on the red wire, the C Wire shouldn't be needed. It wasn't needed on my old house where I installed 5 of these. That was on a Taco controller. This is a new house for me, voltage is voltage...  or should be.

Hi psraff,

Could you share a photo of your current thermostat's wiring?

Best,

Mel

Hey there psraff,

Checking back in should you still have some questions here. Let us know by replying to this thread.

Best,
Mel

The wiring is how it was before I moved in. I think the battery is old. I replaced the battery and I am still having to charge now every day. The Thermostat is just not charging or holding a charge at all.

Hello folks,

I wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

Thanks for assisting, Mel.

@psraff and @Napalmo311, I'd love to know more about this. Let's sort this out.

  • Could you tell us what type of Nest Thermostats you have?
  • Are you getting any message codes?
  • Please gather the power readouts from the technical info settings on your thermostat devices.

I'll look forward to your response.

Regards,

Mark
