Nest keeps saying Please remove the thermostat from its base

I remove and reattach and it's still telling me same error. I have tried resetting/rebooting and same error. I can't get it to come back on. Left it for 2 hours last night and it came on by itself, and now I am back to same error again.

Hello folks,

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your inquiry.

I appreciate you posting on this thread and letting us know what you've done, @Kknig657.

@KatieStewart, I'd be happy to take a look at this for you. What type of Nest Thermostat do you have? Is this a first-time installation? If so, please follow these steps:

  1. Make sure that the wires are flat on the base.
  2. Loosen the screws on the base by half or a quarter.
    1. This should help if the base is screwed too tightly to the wall.
  3. Make sure the thermostat display is properly seated.
  4. Inspect for any visible damage. Check the 20-pin connector on both ends of the base and display.
  5. Reseat the wires.
    1. Turn off the power to the HVAC at the breaker box before touching the wires.
  6. Perform a battery disconnect.
    1. Remove the display from the base.
    2. While the display is detached from the base, wait for the thermostat to turn back on and display the message: "Please attach the display to its base."
  7. If you have the Nest Learning Thermostat with a single transformer system, switch the power wire between the Rh and Rc terminals.
  8. Remove the C wire if there is one.

Please let me know if that helps, or if the issue still persists.

Best,

Mark
