thermostat won’t turn on out of the blue. I’ve tried different batteries that work on other devices.  I’ve cleaned the battery ports. It is wired correctly and when installed it clicks ensuring it’s connected properly. WiFi is fine as well! Please help it’s cold!

Hi Netbum,

Thanks for posting in the community! I understand that your Nest Thermostat won’t turn on, even when using batteries that function in other devices. I appreciate your efforts and the details you've shared regarding the steps you've already taken. I realize how important it is for you to be comfortable at home. No worries, I’m here to help get this sorted out.

To better investigate this situation, I’d like to ask for the following information:

  • When did this issue first occur?
  • Have you seen any error messages on the thermostat display or in the Google Home app?
  • What is the make and model of your HVAC system?
  • Are the breakers on, and is the rest of your home receiving power?
  • Are there any LED lights on the thermostat? If so, what color are they?
  • Could you share a picture of the wiring installation?
  • Could you please share the battery status? (You can find this under Settings > Battery > Battery Status on the thermostat display).
  • In case you have more than one thermostat, are they experiencing the same issue?

In the meantime, please ensure you’re using high-quality 1.5 V AAA alkaline batteries from a known manufacturer. For more details, feel free to check this article: Troubleshoot when your thermostat won’t turn on.

I look forward to your response.

Best regards,

Jenniffer
