Nest must be removed and put back on to get furnace to activate

I installed the Nest about a week ago. Every morning I wake up and it is 5-10 degrees cooler than it is set to. The Nest says it is heating but it is not. The only fix I have found is to remove the nest from the wall and put it back. The furnace will then activate. All my wires are correct and connected. I also looked at the furnace’s wires to confirm they matched. I’m about to put my old thermostat back on the wall.

Hi ol_ZM,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community forum.

We're sorry for any trouble this may have caused you. I appreciate you posting and updating us on your efforts to address your concern and find a fix. I wanted to check this further for you. Let’s gather the power reading of your Nest Thermostat.

For the Nest Learning Thermostat and Nest Thermostat E:

  1. Press the thermostat ring to bring up the Quick View menu.
  2. Turn the ring to Settings and press to select.
  3. Turn the ring to Technical Info and press to select.

For the Nest Thermostat 2020:

  1. Tap the touch bar to bring up the Menu view.
  2. Slide your finger down to Settings, then tap to select.
  3. Slide your finger to Equipment > Power Info.

Also, send us a photo of your current wiring on the Nest Thermostat.

I look forward to your response.

Regards,

Renz

Hello ol_ZM,

Thanks for the update. The power reading is normal. there are a couple other reasons why the Nest Learning Thermostat changes the temperature automatically, for example. If you recently turned off the auto-schedule, the previous setup might still be in effect. The same goes if you have already set up a manual schedule and remove it; there might be a chance that it will adjust the schedule accordingly. This is part of the Nest Learning Thermostat algorithm, but it can easily be fixed by starting fresh on the device. Resetting it to the factory default and turning off the auto-schedule right away can do the trick. Follow the steps below:

  1. On your thermostat, go to Nest Learning Thermostat Settings Reset Schedule.
  2. Go to Settings Nest Sense Auto-Schedule (Turn off Auto-Schedule).

Those steps will help us start fresh and clear out all the schedule and auto-schedule setup on the Nest Thermostat.

Let us know if that works for you.

Best,

Renz

I reset it and it still wouldn’t hold temp. I removed any schedule and turned off all smart features. It would continue to have the same issue. It would say it was in “heating 2” mode but the heat wouldn’t actually be on. I removed the Nest and installed my old thermostat and haven’t had an issue since. Back to the non smart thermostat.
