Nest or Google Customer Support

Does anyone have an actual number or email for some real support? I spent an entire day dealing with Google over several parts of my heating system. It's bad enough that all their support is in India or some other country and I often have a hard time understanding them, but they are arrogant as well.

I bought a power connector that supposedly will work in place of a c-wire. We installed it per the instructions in the booklet that came with the product. Then there support questions why we followed those instructions and sends us some other instructions to follow.

Then my learning thermostat stops working and they tell me to go buy a new one. Never buying another Nest product again and will migrate to other brands, but I am looking to share my concerns with someone at this company that might care, if such a person even exists.

Hello dmwesq15,

Oh no! I'm sorry for the experience. I'd be happy to take a look at this for you and see why your Nest Thermostat stopped working even after installing a Nest Power Connector.

Could you please provide me the Case number from the support you've spoken with? This will help me check for more options.

I'll look forward to your response.

Regards,

Mark

I have multiple support reference numbers from the several issues I had in the span of several days.

2/28 -  7-4372000033412

3/1 - 3-0001000034108

3/2 - 3-5588000033769

3/2 - 3-0838000034022

I have no idea what number goes with what issue since you do not include the original question submitted when you send out these numbers.

I do not expect Google to resolve anything at this point as we have gone back and forth and it got to the point where your support spends more time arguing with me or blaming me for things than solving issues. They also spend a great deal of time reading off scripts and don't have much actual knowledge aside from what is written in whatever manual they read from.

This all started when my plumber had to replace a defective zone valve in my home. I have a hot-water boiler system which is also part of the problem since most of your products only work with HVAC systems although that is not made clear from any literature that comes with your products or online on your site.

Before my valve was replaced, I was operating with 3 thermostats. One is a Nest Learning Thermostat which is controlling one heat zone and one AC zone. I also have tow Nest E thermostats which each control a heat-only zone.

Once the zone valve had to be replaced it triggered a problem in that the old zone valve only required two wires for the heat only zone so the Nest E worked fine. The new valve and all newer valves require a C-wire to provide heat. That led me to come across the Nest Power Control, which on a support call with Nest was a suggestion the support representative made.

I ordered the Power Connector from Home Depot and received it the next day. My plumber installed it as per the instructions in the booklet included in the package the controller came in. It was installed following the heat-only directions. I had emailed a photo of the pages in that booklet to your support rep.

The valve and thermostat worked for a short period of time, and the the controller blew a fuse in the boiler. My plumber came by the next day and spent 6 hours trying to get everything working and we blew a lot of fuses, one transformer, and had Nest telling us the booklet we were using had the wrong directions. Again, the main problem is this controller is really designed for HVAC systems and not for boilers.

He finally got things running, and beside the minor money spent for the controller itself I now have a huge bill from the plumber.

At the same time, and possibly from all the work associated with getting my downstairs heat zone working with the controller, my Learning Thermostat stopped working. So now my plumber had to try to troubleshoot that, again on the phone with Nest support. At the end of another hour or so the answer from Nest is the thermostat needs to be replaced, is no longer under warranty, and I should go buy a new one. So unless Nest is sending me a new Learning Thermostat the new one I buy will be a Honeywell as I start to move away from Nest products.

Then a couple of days later I got an email asking me to enroll in Nest Renew. I di not respond to that email, but the next thing I know my thermostat is supposedly being throttled through Nest Renew. Since no one at Google could tell me how I was subscribed to Renew when I did not take any steps to do that I canceled the service on my end.

That about sums up my latest fiasco with Nest. Please do not send me any more requests for more Info. I am done answering the same questions over and over.

Thank goodness I was not waiting for this response. 2 weeks to respond? Luckily someone else has been handling my case and sending out replacements.
