Nest sensor remains connected to old account

I've had my nest learning thermostat and nest temp sensor for about 1.5 years. Last week I couldn't access the app anymore and was asked to migrate to Google. I already used a Google account and password for my account, but it will not work. Therefore, I was instructed migrate to Google with access through the app with the same email and maybe it will link. It did not. I reset the thermostat, but the sensor is still connected to the defunct account. I've had the batteries out of the sensor for 2 days now and it will not detach. How do I reset the sensors because removing the batteries is not working? Thank you

Hi Doctortlc,

Uh-oh! If you're having trouble resetting the Nest Temperature Sensor, here's a step-by-step guide to help you:

  1. Remove the batteries from the Nest Temperature Sensor.
  2. Leave the batteries out for at least 10 seconds.
  3. Reinsert the batteries into the Nest Temperature Sensor.
  4. On your Nest Learning Thermostat, go to the main menu by pressing on the display and selecting "Settings."
  5. Scroll to "Temperature Sensor" and select it.
  6. Choose the specific Temperature Sensor you want to reset.
  7. Select "Remove" or "Reset" to remove the sensor from your system.
  8. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reset process.

If the above steps don't work, you can try a factory reset of the Nest Learning Thermostat itself. Keep in mind that a factory reset will erase all your settings and preferences, so you'll need to set up your thermostat again from scratch. To perform a factory reset:

  1. On the Nest Learning Thermostat, go to the main menu.
  2. Scroll to "Settings" and select it.
  3. Scroll to "Reset" and select it.
  4. Choose "Reset Settings."
  5. Confirm your selection to proceed with the factory reset.

After the factory reset, you can set up your Nest Learning Thermostat again using the Nest app with your Google account credentials. Once the thermostat is set up, you can then re-add the Nest Temperature Sensor to your system following the instructions provided by the Nest app.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe

As explained in my question, none if what you offered worked. My sensor is linked to my account that would not migrate to Google. I had to make a new one. The sensor did not migrate. The thermostat no longer shows the option to choose a temperature sensor, so I cannot reset it from the thermostat. Additionally, a total reset of all my thermostat settings was already completed to make a new account and attach the thermostat. These directions do not work to attach the sensor which is still linked to the previous account.

As stated in the original post, removing the battery from the sensor has not triggered a reset. The battery has now been removed for 3 days and upon trying again...it is still registered to the old account.

After 5 days of the battery being out of the sensor...it is finally detached from the former account. It really should not take that long.

Unfortunately, all accounts I have that are migrating to Google are having this problem. Nothing is migrating smoothly. Information is not sent. Points are not conveyed. History is not lost. Why all this Google migration without continuity?! Seems like someone did not adequately mind the gap.
