Hello,
Undoubtedly I'm not the first to crow about this. I've had my Nest for just over 16 months. Yesterday it started acting weird and the system started sending notifications my furnace needed checked out. Then it displayed it was shutting down to recharge.... Of course it happens during a severe winter storm and 4° temps (after everyone's closed). I wasted my time trying to manual charge it off the dock. All it would do is allow the fan to blow. -- It was a COLD night to try and sleep through.
Next morning, the furnace repair crew shows up and respectfully chuckles saying, "These things fail so often it's expected, no longer a surprise.". They replaced it with a standard digital one. Everything worked just fine after that. I was cautioned that these poorly designed thermostats can actually shorten the life of a furnace by incorrectly activating it and shutting it off prematurely. They looked things over and suggested keeping an eye on how the furnace runs now and note any of sounds or such (which would signal other issues that may have been caused by the faulty programming / failed power source activity.
Over all, I'm sorry I ever added a Google product to my home. I cannot imagine the quality of their other products, not to sound mean, just how I feel.

Hi Killerbee18,
Yikes! I'm sorry to hear about your negative experience with the Nest Thermostat and the inconvenience it caused during the severe winter storm. It's unfortunate that the thermostat malfunctioned and led to discomfort in your home. We'll take your feedback as an opportunity to learn and to be able to provide a better experience in the future. If you come across other information you'd like to pass along or have more questions, feel free to create a new post.
Best,
