Nest not cooling to desired temperature.

Our normal set temperature is 73°F downstairs. My husband set it to 74°F for one day and ever since that day it has stayed at 77°F-78°F and not cooling to our desired temperature. It reads that it will take 1.5-2hours to get to our desired temperature but it never gets to that degree and just stays on the whole day and of course this is expensive.

The software is up to date, no obstructions, changed the filter as soon as we saw it wasn’t cooling. Any help on what this could be?

Hi iivetty08,

Uh-oh! I'm sorry to hear that your Nest Thermostat is consistently not cooling to the desired temperature, despite the settings and conditions being appropriate, there could be a few possible reasons for this issue. Are you located in North America or Europe? What type of Nest Thermostat do you have? And is there a schedule that your thermostat follows?

On the other hand, poor airflow can hinder the cooling performance. Make sure all vents and registers are open and not blocked by furniture or other obstructions. Ensure that the air filters are clean and not clogged, as a dirty filter can restrict airflow. Also, check if the evaporator coil or condenser unit needs cleaning. The Nest Thermostat uses the built-in temperature sensor to measure the ambient temperature. Ensure that the thermostat is not exposed to direct sunlight, drafts, or other heat sources that may affect its temperature readings. Additionally, verify that the temperature sensor is not covered or obstructed in any way.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Zoe
