Nest stopped working RC error after recharging

We’ve had our Nest for 4-5 years. No problems until a few days ago. Super cold night and woke up to bedroom very cold. Checked Nest app and says it was offline. Checked Wifi and it was great. Went downstairs to Nest and it was dark. House at 53 degrees. Went to basement and flipped circuit breaker to furnace and nothing. Called oil dealer for service. Before service guy arrived my adult daughter pulled Nest off wall and charged it. Never had to due this before. After she reinstalled it said RC no power.
Service guy arrived and tested furnace in basement. It was fine. He determined it was Nest and installed a manual thermostat and heated house and everything is fine.
Question - do I just buy new Nest or what?

Hi jslw13,

I'm sorry for the trouble this may have caused you. Thanks for being a step ahead of us.

Nest Learning Thermostat will disconnect to the Wi-Fi and will show offline to the app if it encounters a battery issue. If the thermostat didn't detect power to the wires it would use its own battery to support the system for a short period of time.

Please fill out this form as I'll hand it  over to our team for more options. Please let me know once you're one.

Best,
