I just bought a 3gen nest and there is a sticker at the base that looks creased and scratched.
I looked here for an answer to see if it should be removed and found a set of posts that only confuse me more.
The thread is at:
and was locked 2 weeks ago.
Can someone answer a simple question. Should it be removed?
I understand that there may be a PIR underneath but cannot see any Fresnel lens as suggested.
In particular, I could not understand a word of what the community specialist said (not because it was technical):
The main piece of plastic is the main display lens for aesthetics and is an outer layer of finish to the product. The bottom sensor is a PIR Infrared Fresnel lens that allows our sensors to function correctly. The bottom sensor doesn't have an additional film on it, so be very careful as to not scratch it.
So is this suggesting should the bottom plastic come off?
Perhaps this thread was closed a bit too soon.

Hey there,
Upon purchase, the thermostat has a plastic film that you need to remove to uncover the sensor. Once the film has been removed, this is how your thermostat display should look like.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.
