Nest thermostat Gen 3 lacking furnace failed

ScottyPTBO
Community Member

-overnight temp setpoint 18'C

-7am temp setpoint now 21'C,

-Nest calls for the furnace to run

-8am house temperature is now 17'C and falling.

-Nest still calling for furnace to run.

-Furnace had a failed exhaust blower pressure switch which prevented the burners from starting.

Nest thermostat SHOULD have alerted me by 715am that the house temperature is not increasing! Nothing!

Is there a thermostat with such a feature?

Hi @ScottyPTBO,

Thanks for reaching out to the community. I’m sorry to hear that you didn't receive notifications about your Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd Gen) calling for heat but your system wasn't turning on, causing the temperature drops in your home. Don't worry, help is here.

To gather all the necessary information and provide you with the best assistance, please answer the following questions:

  • What type of HVAC system do you have?
  • Is your system forced air heating?
  • Which app are you using, Google Home or Nest App?

I'll be waiting for your reply.

Best regards.

Derick.

What type of HVAC system do you have? Natural gas

Is your system forced air heating? Yes

Which app are you using, Google Home or Nest App? While I have both apps, I primarily use the Nest app to control the thermostat

Hi there,

Thank you for your reply and for providing the information requested. Could you please confirm if the notifications are activated in your Nest app by following the steps below?

  1. Open the Nest app.
  2. Tap Settings on the home screen.
  3. Select Notifications.
  4. Choose the Nest product you want to change notifications for; it is important that you select the options in the Nest Home Report and confirm if the Furnace Heads-up is activated.

I’ll be waiting for your reply.

Best regards,

Derick.

Under Nest Home Report, there is no Furnace Heads-up option.

Hi there!

Thanks for your reply. Let’s check if maybe you need to turn on the critical alerts in the Google Home app; please follow the steps below:

  • Open the Home app, tap settings, then notifications, and then general notifications.
  • Turn on critical alerts.
  • Check for a banner at the top of the screen.
  • If there's a banner that says critical alerts are turned off in this device's settings, tap Turn on critical alerts, then follow the steps to complete setup in your phone's settings.
  • If there's no banner, you're all done.

I'll be waiting for your reply.

Best regards.

Derick.

Within the Home app settings, Notifications, all were/are selected ON, including Critical alerts
