I have the same issue. I have a blinking green and orange light at the top center, the screen is on, but the heating system only blows a fan and there is no heat although the screen is orange indicating heat should be on. Any resolution?

Hello everyone,

It seems like you both are experiencing similar issues with your Nest Learning Thermostats. Let's sort this out.

When the thermostat display flashes orange or red, it is an indication that there might be a power-related issue. Gather the power readings in the Technical Info so we can determine their status.

If the thermostat’s display LED flashes a green light, it means the thermostat is on the software update phase, boot-up phase, restart phase, or the thermostat is connected to a charger. Once the thermostat finishes the software update and restart phase, the display turns on. If the thermostat continues to flash a green light and remains unresponsive for more than 5 minutes, check these steps:

  1. Remove and reconnect the display.
  2. If the issue persists, press and hold down the thermostat ring for 10 seconds to restart it.
  3. If the issue persists, verify that the thermostat mounts (it can be detected by a computer if it’s connected via a micro-USB cable).
  4. If the Nest drive doesn’t mount, restart the thermostat and the computer.
  5. If the Nest drive still doesn’t mount, connect another USB device to the computer via the cable to check if it detects and/or installs the USB device.
    1. If the computer doesn’t detect the USB device, use a different USB cable, USB port, or computer.
    2. If the computer detects the USB device, manually eject the USB device, and then replug the display into the computer.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,
Mark

Hi Ravk,

Yes, I am. Have you had a chance to try the steps? Here's an article to troubleshoot when your thermostat won't turn on, referencing the guides above. Let me know if you need more help.

Best,
Mark

Thanks Mark.  None of the steps worked.  I purchased a new thermostat and put in the existing backpiece, and the new thermostat worked.  So I think it is something with the frontpiece.  I plan to file a warranty claim.

I appreciate your assistance.

Hey there,

Oh no! I appreciate you providing an update on your thermostat issue. It's great to hear that you were able to identify the problem by purchasing a new thermostat and finding that it worked with the existing base.

To make sure everything is covered here, can you share with us your support ID number so I can check the status of your replacement?

Thanks,
Mark

Hi folks,

@Ravk, I got your back! You should see it in the email from us with your Google Support inquiry number. Please check your inbox or spam for the update.

Thanks for getting back to us with your support ID number, @gtphilip76. It appears to be a power-related issue. Can you gather your thermostat's power readings in the Technical Info settings? I see you have a C wire installed, and it should supply enough power to the thermostat. I want to see more of it so I can check for more options.

Keep me posted.

Best,
Mark
